In this exciting workshop Ellen will be doing live demos during three of the four sessions Ellen will work with students to understand and practice how to do value studies of the iconic Mendocino scenes on the first day. We will do several small studies (5” x 7” or 6” x 8”) using three values. Students will work from a variety of photos of Mendocino that the instructor will provide in advance. Students will also focus on connecting the light and dark patterns throughout their painting to create stronger compositions and learn how to simplify their shapes. On the second and third day, Ellen will demo in color, two different scenes from Mendocino. She will explain composition, the importance of your focal point and the use of directional lines. She will also give a color lesson throughout the demo. Ellen will do a student critique and a review of the skills presented during the workshop on the last day.
