I'll begin with a short slideshow summarizing what we’ll be covering and show examples of my work. We’ll be doing small studies from still life setups and I’ll demo every exercise. We will work small, no larger than four 5" x 7". You will learn more by doing a lot of smaller paintings than finishing a large one. True fact!
We will cover the three basic steps of a painting:
2) VALUES, the relationship of lights and darks and finally
I concentrate on Value – probably the most important step in your painting. It's generally where most paintings fail and it's the easiest thing to fix. I also stress the concept of having a clear idea of what you are setting out to paint, what is your painting about – who is the hero and how do I lead the viewer’s eye to it.
I keep my class size small so I can work with each of you individually and at your own pace. Look forward to having you in class!
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR GEORGE SCRIBNER is a Fine Artist, Animator and Filmmaker. He was born and raised in Panama City, Panama, and has been with The Walt Disney Company for more than 35 years. In 1983 he became a Character Animator at Walt Disney Feature Animation and in 1988 directed Oliver and Company, a full-length animated feature.
George is currently working at Walt Disney Imagineering as a contractor directing Animation projects and creating Concept Art for upcoming attractions.
Commissioned by the Government of Panama to record the expansion of the Panama Canal, George spent more than nine years creating large-scale oil paintings documenting the construction of this massive engineering marvel. “It was an honor to be a part of this project and my way of giving back to the country where I grew up”; commented George about the creation of these paintings. He completed 35 original large-scale paintings and the series is now part of the permanent collection at the Museo del Canal in Panama City.
George was also commissioned by The Walt Disney Company to paint scenes of the construction of Shanghai Disneyland. He not only painted scenes of the construction of this massive entertainment complex but directed animation projects for a number of attractions. His paintings became part of the historical documentation for this newest addition to Disney Parks & Resorts.
His newest role with the Walt Disney Company will be to chronicle in oil paintings the construction of the newest Walt Disney Cruise ships. Commented George, “Someone at Disney called me the ‘Sultan of Steel.’ I’ll take it.”
