Instructor: Jessica Thompson
LOOSEN UP AND THROW BIG!
June 11–14, 2020 (Thursday–Sunday, 9:30am–4:30pm)
SU20C200 • All levels
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, this class has been cancelled.
Students will be empowered to surpass their comfort-level and make bigger, more complex pots. Jess will demonstrate how to add coils and continue throwing slowly, to gradually build large, challenging forms. We’ll also learn how to add and throw feet and finials, handbuild handles, and basically do whatever it takes to throw and build forms that simply can’t be thrown with one piece of clay. We’ll look at the forms, narratives, and decoration of large pots throughout history, and how they’ve served daily and also ritual and cultural functions. Students will walk away knowing they can throw almost anything if they do it slowly, inch by inch.
