CLASS DESCRIPTION
Transforming photos into art results from a good eye and an understanding of what it takes to convert the inspiration of that vision that is in your head when you snap the photo into a captivating art piece you would proudly hang on your wall. For instance, how do you take an intriguing photograph that is poorly lit through a dirty window and transform it to something special? How do you bring home a bag of fresh vegetables, knowing there is a photo somewhere there and create a still life?

These four two-hour session courses, spread over four weeks is taught by renowned Mendocino Coast photo artist, Larry R Wagner. He will start you down a well-directed path to developing an artist’s eye and a tool kit for converting what comes out of your camera into photo art. You will learn about selection of subjects, the art of excellent composition, how to use lighting for greater impact, color management, and the power of focus and blur. You will have a chance to increase your command of the technical aspects of photography including exposure selection, avoiding camera shake, what file format to use, the shooting modes on your camera and how to avoid smudged photos. The course will provide both theory and examples of the concepts and tools involved.

There will be homework assignments after each session. Depending on the number of students in the class, some will be reviewed during the class. All homework not reviewed in class will be reviewed by Larry with the students one-on-one by phone or Zoom, preferably the latter. There will be time in class and outside to get questions answered that arise from the lessons.

At the end of the four weeks, you should have the tools to be well on your way on the journey to becoming a photo artist and reap the enjoyment that comes from work that delights both you and the people with whom you share your work.

He has published three books on Artists of the Mendocino Coast, Look at Us, We Are Beautiful (glamour shots of local women), and Saloonachicks (a collection of portraits of the women who visit the Saloon in San Francisco, to name a few of his many collections.
