Whenever life brings a challenge my way, I create my own saint to help me find a positive path to resolution. If I am feeling unmotivated, I create an icon to inspire me. If I am worrying too much, I make a guardian to remind me of gratitude.

Join this joyful excursion into art and make your very own mixed media mantra. You will be designing your own saints, goddesses, guardians or icons dedicated to whatever needs or deserves more attention in your life. How about “Our Lady of Creativity,” or “The Goddess of Being Kind to Yourself,” or “The Saint of Simplification"? Create icons that represent your aspirations with some of my favorite mixed media techniques in this motivating and meditative journey into self-expression.

Day 1 includes forming the foundation for your collage work. Day 2 includes creating embellishments with paper clay. Day 3 includes attaching techniques, beading and stitching, plus finish work. This process is perfect for those seeking a flexible, forgiving, and fun way to express their creativity. It’s ideal for beginners looking to get started in art making, and for experienced artists wanting new methods to incorporate into their work. You will come away with tangible keepsakes from your artful journey. Includes collage work and paper clay basics.

Artist and author ROGENE MANAS was the owner of an international card company, a creative director and illustrator for more than 35 years, until she retired from her business (PhotoTidings.com) in 2006 to focus on art making. She studied art at the University of Oregon and worked with numerous professional artists in the Pacific Northwest, Mexico, Italy and France, in developing her skills. As an accomplished plein air landscape painter, she made a sudden departure in style after spending winters in Mexico. Inspired by the allegorical nature of Latin American folk art, she shifted her focus from the external world to the internal one. Now as a contemporary folk artist, she makes art about thoughts and feelings, often combining nature images with human forms. She teaches unique and inventive mixed media workshops in Oregon, California, plus San Miguel de Allende and Oaxaca, Mexico. Her work may be seen in galleries throughout Oregon. Her book, Artful Paper Clay: Techniques for Adding Dimension to Your Art, published by North Light Books has a four star rating, and is available in book stores and on Amazon.

In 2011, she was featured on Oregon Art Beat, a regional program on PBS showcasing Oregon Artists.
