Paper, both found and handprinted, house paint, acrylics, and varnish form the basis for abstract mixed media layered paintings. We’ll print, paint, and draw on papers, prepare basic surfaces on various supports and explore exciting additive and subtractive techniques for working with layers. In addition we’ll work with issues surrounding color, composition, shapes and lines. When paper meets paint, the result is work that has the depth and interest of fine artwork.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
SARA POST is a professional artist working in Davis, California. Over the course of her painting career she has worked with water media, oil and cold wax, and ceramic pigments and glazes. Her latest pieces continue her interest in the layered surface by combining paint with paper on wood. Her artwork is exhibited both in California and nationally. She is an experienced instructor, teaching classes at various arts centers across the United States and at her studio, Art 26, in Davis, CA.
“I’m concerned with what it is to be present in the world—with what happens in time. Experiences of the extraordinary invention and majesty of nature as well as realities of the structure and limits involved in being human all come together, layer upon layer. Contradictions abound. I try to work it out with paint and paste, lines and shapes, using the language of abstraction.”
