Andrea DuFlon

I use handmade and recycled paper, plant fibers and other natural materials, as well as found objects, in the construction of abstract biomorphic forms, often using basketry techniques in their construction. While some are open and others closed, my interest lies in the relationship and tension between the inner space and the outer world – reflecting the magical nature of the connection between physical and ethereal, me and the Universe, dream and “reality.” My sculptures can be considered vessels – boundaries around space that may contain forces or memory, remnants of thoughts or feelings. The materials I use are common, mostly degradable and malleable. They are easily defiled by natural forces (fire, wind, water) suggesting that these boundaries are temporal and, like life itself, will change or dissolve when least expected.
