CLASS DESCRIPTION
WEEK 1 – Discover the ancient art of metalsmithing! Students will learn the basics of working with copper and brass on a small scale. This hands-on class includes filing, sanding, texturing, piercing, soldering with the torch, and polishing techniques. Students will design their own pendant, keychain, or other metal object. Sketches are encouraged! Each student can expect to complete the week with at least one finished piece.

WEEK 2 – Further developing the skills learned in Week 1, students will move on to create a project in sterling silver. We will focus on wearable pieces such as a ring, pendant, or earrings.

For new students joining in Week 2, this will be a repeat of Week 1: basics of working with copper and brass (please see Week 1 description above).

WEEK 3 – Students who have participated since Week 1 have the option to use this as a supervised week in the studio to complete another project.

Students who joined in Week 2 will move on to working in sterling silver.

For new students joining in Week 3, this will be a repeat of Week 1: basics of working with copper and brass (please see Week 1 description above).

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
TREVI ALOHILANI PENDRO was born in Los Angeles and grew up on the small island of Alameda, California. She is currently an Artist in Residence at the Mendocino Art Center. Trevi always knew she would be an artist, beginning with incessant drawings as a baby. In elementary school, she was inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright – building sculptures with found bricks in the front yard – and knew she always had to make with her hands. Her journey as a craftsperson began at The Crucible in West Oakland, California, a non-profit fire arts school. She took her first jewelry class at age 12 and became a youth intern at age 15. Her time at The Crucible made her realize jewelry was exactly what she needed to be doing, her passion. She continued on to get her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Jewelry/Metal Arts at California College of the Arts with a minor in Writing & Literature.
