Understory is a 16 mm film exploration of the Redwood Forest floor (30 mins.)
Filmed in extreme close-up, in short burst, the film gives the feeling of exploring the forest floor on hands and knees, blinking at the wonders illuminated by the shifting light. Some of the film is processed with a homemade eco-developer made from the bark of a fallen redwood tree.
Marcia Sloan will perform live cello improvisation to accompany the film. Devereaux Baker and Eve Luckring will read poems reflecting on the forest and environs.
