What You’ll Learn:
Bold Brushwork — let go of fear and embrace confident strokes that carry energy and clarity.
The Glow of Watercolor — explore how to harness transparency, layering and timing to capture luminosity in skies and water.
Color with Courage — experiment with limited palettes, explore warm vs. cool contrasts and push pigments to reveal vibrancy without muddiness.
Techniques for Light — dropping color into wet washes and using granulation for texture and depth.
About the Instructor:
Rehann Vazid is a Melbourne-based watercolour artist and educator known for his bold, light-filled landscapes and his immediate, expressive approach to the medium.
At the heart of his philosophy is a belief that painting is an act of memory-making, a counterbalance to an age where technology increasingly replaces our ability to see and think. Through his work, Rehann invites us back into presence, perception and the joy of experiencing the world directly.
Required Materials:
Paper:
I suggest arches 300gsm watercolor paper (rough or cold press). If you can't find it, any 100%
cotton watercolour paper will do.
We will be painting on half sheets. 4 full sheets should be enough for 3-day workshop
Brushes:
A large hake for washes (eg Neef goat hake 4cm)
A med-large round brush or a mop brush (natural hair or mixed, avoid
synthetic-only brush if possible)
A small brush for details
A note on brushes: Bring the brushes you normally paint with.
Paints:
Artist-quality tubes are best — I use Camel, Schminke and Daniel Smith.
***Avoid cakes/pan sets.***
We’ll need a warm and cool version of each primary. Full list below.
Raw Sienna or Yellow Ochre
Cad yellow or gamboge Yellow
Prussian blue or Cobalt Blue
Ultramarine Blue
