Workshop Description:
This workshop takes an unflinching look at shame – examining it closely and transforming it into powerful, honest writing. Through guided prompts and discussion, participants will explore personal secrets, desires, and anger in a way that is intentional and deeply reflective. Prior to the workshop, each participant will complete a detailed questionnaire designed to help foster a supportive, respectful, and nonjudgmental environment.

This is not a conventional writing workshop. It is immersive, challenging, and focused on producing meaningful work. By the end, participants will have a strong draft of an essay with publication potential, or at the very least, a piece of writing they feel proud of.

In addition to generative work, the workshop includes practical guidance on pitching and connecting with editors. Participants will leave not only with polished writing, but also with tools and contacts to help bring their work into the world.

About the Instructor:
Sara lives in Los Angeles, and is the former Non-Fiction Editor of Entropy Magazine. Sara was born and raised in Queens, NY, a first generation eldest daughter and granddaughter. She was always queer, always horny, but Catholic school and immigrant parents pushed that so far down, she forgot. She broke during Covid, raising two young disabled children, and then she kept breaking. In her previous life, Sara hosted a number of popular reading series around Los Angeles, and she published widely, in Catapult, Brevity, The Los Angeles Review of Books, the Rumpus, Electric Literature, Black Warrior Review, Longreads, etc. She co-produced a podcast for Snap Judgement about that time her grandmother tried to kidnap her to be exorcised in Italy, and while the kidnapping didn’t work, what the witches ended up doing kind of did. Sara is Audhd, Queer, a wife, a mother, and is writing a book about kink, but it is really about pain.
