Workshop Description:
This is a class for beginners to gain and practice foundational sewing skills! In class we will create a: tote bag, apron and, lastly, drawstring pants. For each of our three days we will produce one or more simple garments, moving from very easy, to a bit more complex! The goal is that participants will leave the class with basic skills to build on independently, a handful of lovely garments and (just as importantly) have a good time in the process of learning.

Below is a plan for the class. Please note that some details are subject to change, depending on pacing and class needs.

CLASS PLAN:

Day 1:

  • Setting up and understanding the machines

  • Measuring and cutting the pieces for a pillow case

  • Sewing the pillow case

Day 2:

  • Using a pattern to cut the pieces for an apron

  • Sewing the apron

  • Measuring and cutting the pieces for a tote bag

  • Sewing the tote bag

Day 3:

  • Using a pattern to cut the pieces for elastic waist pants

  • Sewing the pants

(Please note: Participants will be encouraged to work at their own pace.  Some will progress through the projects faster than others and some may not complete all the projects—but they’ll all leave with basic skills!)
