Workshop Description:

Back by popular demand! In this one-day workshop Carrie Botto will guide you through the unique process of wrapping stones using Japanese Basket Knots. This hands-on experience is designed for creative individuals looking to explore a distinctive craft through direct practice. Students will learn three fundamental Japanese Basket Knots and have time to perfect each technique before moving on to the next.

Throughout the day, participants will weave using leather, colored cotton threads, and paper cords to wrap stones that symbolize intentions of remembrance, empowerment, congratulations, and friendship. These stones become personal tokens, infused with meaning—whether for yourself or as a special gift.

Students will have the opportunity to choose from a selection of leather, cords, and embellishments to create their pieces. Each participant will receive a needle, two pieces of leather (4 yards each), and a gift bag with additional materials provided by Carrie to enhance their designs. By the end of the workshop, most students will leave with 6 to 9 completed stones, each one uniquely wrapped.

About the Instructor:

Carrie Botto is a self-taught multimedia weaver based in New Mexico. She is inspired by the rich colors of natural dyes and the freedom of creating intuitively, allowing each piece to evolve organically. In her basketry, she works with pine needles, yucca, paper, and raffia, incorporating beads and assorted cords to create jewelry, wall art, and sculptural forms.
