Workshop Description:
Join instructor Carrie Botto for a hands-on introduction to the timeless craft of pine needle basketry. In this three-hour workshop, students will learn the simple, foundational techniques of coiled basket weaving using waxed cord and pine needles gathered from the grounds of the Mendocino Art Center.

Beginning at the center and working outward, participants will stitch, coil, and shape their basket by hand, learning how natural materials come together to form something both beautiful and useful. Each student will leave with a small finished basket and the skills to continue this traditional craft at home.

This workshop is offered at special community pricing in gratitude for Carrie’s generous donation of her time and talents. It is a wonderful opportunity to experience traditional fiber arts in an accessible and welcoming environment.

Participants ages 13 and under are welcome when accompanied by an adult. Please bring a snack for yourself to maximize your creative working time!

About the Instructor:

Carrie Botto is a self-taught multimedia weaver based in New Mexico. She is inspired by the rich colors of natural dyes and the freedom of creating intuitively, allowing each piece to evolve organically. In her basketry, she works with pine needles, yucca, paper, and raffia, incorporating beads and assorted cords to create jewelry, wall art, and sculptural forms.
