Workshop Description:

This workshop offers practical experience in wood-firing and will cover various methods for wadding pots before loading them into the kiln. Participants will learn how to fire the kiln, gain a deeper understanding of its operation, and be able to apply this knowledge to future firings.

Workshop general schedule & firing hours: 

The workshop will begin on Wednesday, May 20th at 9 AM, with the kiln loading process. Participants will work in shifts to ensure continuous, 24-hour monitoring of the firing. The kiln will be fired from May 20th through the morning of May 23rd, with various shifts assigned to the participants throughout these days.

Unloading will take place on Tuesday, May 26th, with the start time depending on the temperature of the kiln. The unloading and cleanup process will take approximately three hours or less.

Please note that the schedule is subject to adjustments depending on the firing process and kiln temperature.


About the Instructor:
Antra Sinha is a ceramic artist, educator, and community builder with the arts. She received her BFA & MFA from MS University of Baroda, India. She was then an apprentice to Ray Meeker and Deborah Smith at Golden Bridge Pottery, India starting in 2002, where she worked for a decade. An award from Japan Foundation took her to the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park, Japan for artist residency. In 2015, as a STEM fellow completed her second MFA in ceramics at Utah State University. She has assisted in studios of Graeme Wilkie, Robert Barron, Markus Bohm and has completed residencies at GayaCAC, Tin Shed Pottery, and Zentrum for Keramik. She has made presentations at Wood-fire conferences in Tasmania, Skælskør, Portland & Star among other conferences. She is a member of International Academy of Ceramics and works at Utah State University and lives with her husband in Logan, Utah.
