Workshop Description:

In this workshop, you'll learn the foundational skills needed to combine textiles and metals in jewelry design. Eden will begin with a presentation showcasing artists who merge these materials in their work. You’ll then explore essential metalsmithing techniques, including drilling holes for stitching, sawing, piercing, and basic forming. Next, you'll dive into textile skills, covering common stitches and working with cord. By the end of the session, students will have created a unique, finished piece of jewelry.


About the Instructor:
Eden Tighe is a metalsmith and textile artist with a B.F.A. in Studio Arts, concentrated in Jewelry and Metals, from PennWest Edinboro University. Her main focus is making sculptural body adornment and jewelry that communicate relational interactions. Her interests in emotion, color, and texture act as common themes to symbolize her studies exploring personal experiences. Eden has come to Mendocino from Pennsylvania to be an Artist in Residence in the Mendocino Art Center’s “Reformed Jewelry Residency”.

Required Materials:

All necessary materials will be provided with the materials fee.

Optional Materials: You are welcome to bring your own needle, thread, embroidery floss, or fabric, but I will supply these as well if you do not have something that you personally would like to incorporate.
