Workshop Description:
Discover the luminosity of cast glass sculpture. This workshop will teach the process of kiln formed glass. Using the ancient art of lost wax sculpture, students will sculpt a wax form that will be used to make a mold for a “one of a kind” sculpture in glass. Techniques for sculpting wax, mold making, and annealing (cooling) the glass in the kiln will be learned. Basic cold working techniques will be covered. If students have an existing sculpture they would like to cast, please bring the silicone mold or a wax casting. Size limit to 12” high and 2-3 inches thick. Students will be able to complete a finished glass sculpture during this workshop. Please email the instructor with any questions.
● Thursday: The first class we will work on our wax sculptures and sprue the artworks.
● Friday: The second class we will make plaster/silica molds for the casting and then dewax them.
● Saturday: The third class we will load the molds into the kiln and cover other glass topics as time allows.
● Sunday: No class. Go explore the area as the pieces are in the kiln!
● Monday: The fourth class we will unload the kiln and demold the sculptures.
