Workshop Description:
Suited for beginner and advanced students. This workshop will cover all the basics of how a ceramic teapot functions. Students will learn wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques to make and assemble all the parts into an exceptionally working teapot. Forming techniques will include throwing and hand-building spouts and various types of lids, throwing, pulling and pinching handles, Making strainers, as well as slipping and scoring strong connections. Students will walk away with their very own thoughtfully crafted teapots and knowledge of the working of its parts and as a whole.
About the Instructor:
Alberto is a local ceramic artist based in Ukiah. His work is expressive and dynamic but is deeply rooted in function. His sculptural ceramics reflect on natural morphology and geologic movement. Alberto received a BA and MFA from Sacramento State University.
Required Materials:
- Needle tool
- sponge, loop tool, wire tool, scoring tool, Metal and wooden rib, ruler or calipers, sketchbook, pencil.
Optional Materials:
- blowtorch
- heat-gun, hair dryer.
